The agreement was signed in Casablanca in the presence of African Development Bank Group President Sidi Ould Tah and Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Nadia Fettah.
The programme will cover several major airports, particularly those in Marrakech, Agadir, Fez and Tangier, with the objective of increasing passenger capacity, improving air connectivity and supporting Morocco’s tourism and transport sectors.
According to the African Development Bank, the financing will help Morocco meet growing demand for passenger and air cargo traffic while strengthening its readiness to host major international events.
Higher airport capacity by 2030
The programme includes the development and expansion of airport infrastructure, the improvement of air navigation systems, and the strengthening of safety and security measures.
By 2030, the annual capacity of Marrakech Airport is expected to reach 14 million passengers, while Agadir Airport is projected to handle 5 million passengers annually. The capacity of Tangier Airport is expected to reach 3.6 million passengers, compared with 3 million passengers for Fez Airport.
The project forms part of Morocco’s efforts to strengthen its position as a regional air transport hub connecting Africa with Europe and other international markets.
It also supports the Kingdom’s tourism development strategy for 2030, particularly through improved air connectivity and expanded infrastructure capable of accommodating rising passenger numbers.
