Morocco: Death Toll from Floods in Safi Province Rises to 21

Moroccan authorities announced on Sunday, 14 December 2025, that the death toll from severe flooding in the Atlantic coastal province of Safi has risen to 21 people, following days of heavy rainfall that caused widespread destruction across the area.

According to official sources, 32 injured people were rescued and received medical treatment. Most of them were discharged after receiving necessary care, while the remaining cases are still under medical observation.

Authorities confirmed that a full-scale mobilization remains underway to continue the search for potential missing persons, carry out field interventions, secure affected areas, and provide essential assistance and support to residents impacted by what has been described as an exceptional weather situation.

The city of Safi suffered significant material damage, as floodwaters inundated dozens of homes and commercial establishments, swept away vehicles, and led to the closure of several roads, severely disrupting daily life and transportation.

In response to deteriorating weather conditions, the Safi Provincial Directorate of Education announced the suspension of classes on Monday, citing safety concerns for students and educational staff.

Authorities stressed that search and rescue operations remain ongoing, alongside efforts to secure flooded areas and deliver aid to affected populations, as concerns persist over further weather disturbances along Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
