Morocco: Israeli Golani Brigade, Involved in Gaza Crimes, Participates in “African Lion” Military Exercises !

The participation of an Israeli military unit notorious for its violent actions in Gaza in the “African Lion 2025” military exercises, hosted by Morocco and led by the United States, has sparked widespread outrage and criticism directed at Moroccan authorities.

The unit in question is the Golani Brigade, one of the most controversial divisions of the Israeli army, accused of committing brutal massacres in the Gaza Strip. The most recent of these was just two months ago, when 15 paramedics and UN workers were killed in Rafah. Images of the attack were widely circulated and provoked international condemnation.

The alert was raised on the platform X by Palestinian journalist Younis Tirawi, who wrote: “Unbelievable. The Golani unit, responsible for the massacre of 15 medics only two months ago in Rafah, is now in Agadir, Morocco.”

Reactions were swift. Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, expressed shock, stating: “If confirmed, this would mark a new level of depravity and a violation of international obligations to hold perpetrators of atrocities accountable.” She urged Moroccan authorities to respect the rule of law, emphasizing: “The world is watching.”

Morocco Under Fire

The controversy intensified after Tirawi revealed that Moroccan authorities had specifically chosen to host the Golani Brigade out of all Israeli army units. This decision has been widely seen as a slap in the face to justice and a betrayal of the victims.

“They were not only spared any consequences for their crimes, but are now being welcomed with honors. This is a scandal. It’s a disgrace,” Tirawi declared.

Calls for Accountability and Transparency

In light of the escalating backlash, human rights advocates and legal experts are urging Moroccan authorities to clarify their decision and reconsider participation in military drills that include units suspected of war crimes.

The fundamental question remains: How far can a state go in justifying its military and diplomatic choices when the moral and human cost is this high?
