Morocco welcomed a record-breaking 17.4 million tourists in 2024, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year, according to an announcement by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism on Thursday.
Tourism accounts for about 7% of Morocco’s GDP and serves as a key source of employment and foreign currency.
The ministry expects Morocco to draw 26 million tourists by 2030, coinciding with the country’s co-hosting of the FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
To accomplish this growth, Morocco has opened additional air routes to major tourism markets, promoted new domestic tourist destinations, and encouraged hotel renovations.
According to Morocco’s exchange rate authority, tourism revenues from January to November rose by 7.2%, reaching a record 104 billion dirhams.
