Murad Hattab: “Significant Potential Exists to Boost Trade and Investment Between Tunisia and China” [Video]

Speaking with Tunisie Numérique, Economist Murad Hattab confirmed today, Wednesday, that the diversification of companies is a very significant matter for Tunisia, at many levels, such as investment or economic companies, as well as commercial exchanges.

The economist noted, in his comments on Tunisia’s upcoming participation in the China-Africa Cooperation Forum this September, that China has kept a strong presence in Africa for 25 years, beginning with the inception of the China-Africa Forum. He stressed that trade transactions between the two sides have reached approximately $280 billion, a significant amount that has placed China as Africa’s leading partner overall.

He added that China’s trade exchanges with Tunisia amounted to about 8.5 billion dinars annually, underlining that there is great potential to develop this partnership despite the challenges linked to geographical distance and shipping costs.

Our speaker added that there are also great possibilities to support investment and technology transfer between the two countries, which would develop Chinese investments in Tunisia, particularly since Tunisia belongs to the African Continental Free Trade Area, which is supported by China and aims to create a large market containing more than a billion consumers.
