Speaking to TAP on Friday evening, Mabrouk said the inspections covered several sectors, including fruits and vegetables, food products, fish, poultry and eggs, canned goods, spices, mineral water, cafés and restaurants, animal feed, pastry shops, bakeries and school supplies.
She added that the food sector accounted for the highest number of violations, with 83 cases, followed by the tobacco sector with 58 violations, school supplies with 55 and fruits and vegetables with 52.
Violations related to price increases topped the list with 151 cases. A further 121 violations concerned the integrity and transparency of commercial transactions, while 38 involved monopolistic practices. The remaining violations were linked to quality issues and fraud.
During the same period, 25 seizure operations involving basic goods and products were carried out. These included 36,084 litres of mineral water seized for failure to comply with regulated prices, 30,000 school notebooks over refusal to sell, tied selling and concealment of goods, as well as 11 tonnes of sugar held outside the legally authorised channels.
The seizures also included 3.4 tonnes of flour over breaches of subsidy regulations, 36 tonnes of potatoes linked to monopolistic practices outside authorised premises, and 1,618 school-supply items.
Mabrouk said joint efforts by economic control teams would continue to monitor the stability of market supplies of basic goods and products, address violations and practices disrupting the proper functioning of the market, and help protect consumers’ purchasing power.
