The General Directorate of National Security announced on Thursday the detention of a migrant from the Sub-Saharan region, accused of robbery, assault with a bladed weapon, and illegal entry into Tunisian territory. The incident took place in Nabeul, where the individual attempted to rob a saleswoman in a pastry shop.
According to the statement from the Directorate, the perpetrator entered the shop and, under the threat of a sharp object, threatened the saleswoman before seizing her mobile phone and a sum of money. The theft was captured by the shop’s surveillance cameras, and a video clip quickly circulated on social media, allowing authorities to locate the suspect.
Following a series of field investigations, a task force composed of security personnel was formed. Investigators were able to identify and arrest the suspect in a relatively short period, thanks to the surveillance footage and local inquiries.
The stolen items—the mobile phone and the money—were recovered and returned to their owner. The suspect has been placed in custody and will soon appear before judicial authorities to face the charges against him.
