On the orders of President Kaïs Saïed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, will lead the Tunisian delegation to the third United Nations Ocean Conference, which will be held in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement on Sunday.
The ministry added that this conference is being held under the title “United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and Sustainably Use the Oceans for Sustainable Development.” On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will deliver Tunisia’s keynote address and outline its approach to addressing environmental issues and sustainable development, as well as its expectations for the conference, which serves as a comprehensive platform to mobilize support for the implementation of national initiatives related to marine health and the sustainable use of marine resources.
The conference will be an opportunity for Tunisia to showcase its achievements and the challenges facing the marine ecosystem at the national level, as well as to build partnerships and attract investments aimed at protecting Tunisia’s marine environment and promoting investment in the blue economy.
The conference will also address key ocean-related issues, including deep-sea mining, the adoption of the international treaty on plastic pollution, and the regulation of overfishing, as well as examine the challenges and opportunities related to the protection of oceans and shared marine resources.
