The General Directorate of the National Guard announced that, as part of ongoing efforts to fight illegal immigration and protect maritime borders, Coast Guard units in the Central Region successfully carried out several operations during the night of March 16-17, 2025, including rescue, assistance, and interception of attempted illegal maritime border crossings.
These operations resulted in the saving of 612 irregular migrants from sub-Saharan African countries, who were in danger of drowning after their boats ran aground at sea.
In separate operations, several crossing attempts were thwarted, and 18 bodies of people of the same nationalities were retrieved.
