MP Bouthaina El Ghanmi, a member of the Sports Committee at Tunisia’s Assembly of the Representatives of the People, told Tunisie Numérique in an exclusive statement that lawmakers are currently discussing the possibility of holding a plenary session with the Minister of Sports, Sadok Mourali, to identify the reasons behind the national football team’s latest disappointing results.
A move in line with Parliament’s oversight mandate
According to the MP, such a session falls within the legislature’s core responsibilities, particularly its role in oversight and accountability. The aim, she said, is to clarify responsibilities and determine the underlying causes of the recent setbacks. “We are moving towards accountability…” she stated, adding that the planned dialogue session is meant to pinpoint weaknesses, break down the causes, and explore possible solutions.
Bouthaina El Ghanmi stressed that the objective is to go beyond simply acknowledging the problem and to address structural issues. If approved, the session would seek to highlight deficiencies, analyze the factors behind the drop in performance, and open a discussion on reform options and corrective measures.
A call for coordination between the executive and the legislature
The MP also emphasized the importance of coordination between the executive and legislative branches in handling sports-related files.
She argued that public action in this area should be grounded in a clear and updated framework, saying: “The law must be the true translator of sustainable sport.” This, she noted, reflects the role legislation can play in building long-term, effective sports governance.
