Just as they had against England and Croatia a few days earlier, Lamine Yamal (6th minute) gave *La Roja* an early lead with a beautiful strike into the top corner. Rodri (35th) doubled the advantage, but after fielding a heavily rotated lineup relatively early in the match, the Spaniards lost some control, allowing the Czechs to get back into the game through Slama (69th).
The reigning world champions ultimately restored their two-goal cushion thanks to Merino (89th). They thus overtook England in the Group A3 standings, following the Three Lions’ impressive 7–0 victory over Croatia.
