New destination for Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech

Brazilian club Botafogo have officially announced the signing of Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech on a free transfer. The deal will keep him at the club until the end of 2028.

In a statement, the club said that the 33-year-old successfully completed his medical examinations before signing his contract. Ziyech arrived in Rio de Janeiro last Tuesday, where he received a warm welcome from Botafogo supporters. The date of his official presentation will be announced later.

The Moroccan player joins the Brazilian side after terminating his contract with Wydad Athletic Club by mutual consent, bringing an end to a brief spell with the Moroccan club following his departure from Qatar’s Al-Duhail.

Ziyech has previously played for Ajax Amsterdam, Chelsea and Galatasaray. He has also earned 64 international caps for Morocco, scoring 25 goals, and was one of the key players in the Atlas Lions’ historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ziyech’s most recent international appearance for Morocco came against Lesotho in September 2024, during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
