New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday that she will resign on February 7. In tears, the prime minister declared that she will not seek re-election after having reflected on her future and lacking energy and inspiration.
“I am leaving because with such a privileged job comes a big responsibility. The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead – and also when you’re not,” Ardern told the press in Napier, where the Labour Party is holding a caucus meeting.
