Noureddine Hachad dies at the age of 80

Noureddine Hachad, son of the trade union leader and national figure Ferhat Hachad, died this Friday, February 28, 2024, at 80. His daughter announced on her Facebook account. The deceased will be laid to rest on Saturday on the island of Kerkennah, a place of deep significance for his family.

Born on July 22, 1944, in Sfax, Noureddine Hachad grew up in the shadow of his father, who was assassinated by the French colonial secret services on December 5, 1952, when he was just eight years old. Despite this tragedy, he followed an outstanding academic path, receiving his high school diploma from Sadiki High School before continuing his higher education in Paris. There, he studied history and tourism economics while supporting his family, who had always refused any financial compensation or external aid, living modestly on a state allowance from Tunisia.

A man of strong convictions and a father of two, Noureddine Hachad left his mark on political and social life with exemplary discretion while remaining loyal to his father’s legacy. His passing marks the closing of another chapter in the history of the Hachad family, a symbol of the struggle for independence and social justice in Tunisia.

May he rest in peace!
