Olive oil : joint parliamentary hearing on the promotion strategy in Tunisia and abroad

    The Committee on Agriculture, Food and Water Security and Fisheries—together with the Committee on External Relations, International Cooperation, Tunisians Abroad and Migration, the Committee on Finance and Budget, and the Committee on Industry, Trade, Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment—held a closed-door session throughout Wednesday, 04 February 2026, to hear representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, the Ministry of Trade and Export Development, as well as the Central Bank of Tunisia, on the olive oil promotion system at both domestic and international levels.

    Speakers presented a detailed assessment of the current olive oil promotion framework, highlighting its strengths as well as the weaknesses surrounding it. For their part, members of parliament put forward several practical proposals to improve the system.

    In conclusion, it was agreed to continue work among the various stakeholders to develop an innovative, clear strategy based on reliable scientific studies, capable of boosting the olive oil sector as a whole.
