The last time we discussed Tunisian olive oil, it was to address challenges such as overproduction, storage issues, declining prices, and weak demand in the global market—hardly uplifting news. Nevertheless, there’s a slightly brighter outlook this Saturday, December 7.
According to data from the National Oil Office (ONH), revenues from olive oil exports last November increased by 16.6%, reaching 281 million dinars (MD), compared to 241 MD in November 2023. This rise is largely attributed to a 47% increase in the volume of olive oil exported, which reached 14,781 tons, despite a significant 20.6% decline in prices. International prices fell from 23.974 thousand dinars per ton in November 2023 to 19.022 thousand dinars per ton currently.
Additionally, the export of packaged olive oil saw a notable boost, with volumes rising by 30% to 2.5 thousand tons, valued at 67 MD.
