Osaka withdraws from French Open

Naomi Osaka declared through Twitter on Monday that she is formally withdrawing from the French Open, following news that she didn’t intend to do press conferences in the forthcoming tournament, stating that she didn’t feel comfortable with them.
Osaka stated that she decided to withdraw “so that everyone can go back to the tennis going on in Paris,” adding that she “never wanted to be a distraction.” She also remarked that she would never use the term mental health “lightly” nor would she trivialize it, saying that her messaging on the matter “could have been clearer.”
Lastly, Osaka didn’t mention when she would be returning to tournaments stating that she was “gonna take some time away from the court,” but that she was happy to discuss with the Women’s Tennis Association ways to “make things better for the players” when she returns
