More than 2.8 million homes and businesses in Florida were cut off from the power grids on Thursday as Hurricane Milton made landfall, data from Poweroutage.us showed.
Meanwhile, over 2.5 million people situated in Orlando, Deltona and Daytona Beach were warned by the National Weather Service in Melbourne of potential flash flooding.
First fatalities were reported in St. Lucie County on Florida’s eastern coast. “We are not going to get into how many, but I can tell you it’s more than one person who has lost their life that we already recovered,” St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson told CNN. He went on to say that hundreds of homes in the area have been “completely totaled.”
