Moroccan runner Sofiane El Bakkali won the gold medal in the 3,000 m steeplechase at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Wednesday evening, offering his country its first medal at the 33rd Olympiad. The Fez native maintained his Olympic title, which he first won in Tokyo in 2021 when he became the first non-Kenyan runner to win the Olympic title in the 3,000 m steeplechase since 1980.
