The Assembly of the Representatives of the People continued, on Thursday, the process of electing permanent parliamentary committees, with several rounds of voting aimed at filling the seats left vacant after the first round.
Eight committees completed after the first round
During the plenary session held on Thursday, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People announced the move to a second round to complete the composition of the incomplete permanent committees.
This decision followed the announcement of the preliminary results of the first round, held last Monday, which led to the completion of eight permanent committees.
However, 13 seats remained vacant, distributed across five committees as follows:
General legislation committee: two seats
Rights and freedoms committee: four seats
Tourism, culture, services and traditional crafts committee: one seat
Committee on the organization and development of public administration, digitalization, governance and the fight against corruption: two seats
Committee on the rules of procedure, electoral laws, parliamentary laws and the electoral function: four seats
Opening of candidacies and supervision of the process
Following the announcement of the first-round results, candidacies were opened to fill the vacant seats. The committee responsible for vote counting and monitoring the voting process oversaw all stages of the electoral operation, in accordance with the provisions of the parliament’s rules of procedure.
Three committees completed in the second round
The results of the second round led to the completion of the election of members of three additional permanent committees. It was nevertheless announced that three seats were still vacant, including:
One seat in the committee on the rules of procedure, electoral laws, parliamentary laws and the electoral function
Move to a third round
In light of this situation, a third round of voting was organized, with a new opening of candidacies and the immediate launch of voting operations. These were followed by vote counting and the official announcement of the results, with the aim of definitively completing the composition of all permanent parliamentary committees.
