Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed deep sorrow over what he described as the “daily hell” endured by the people of Gaza, particularly children, amid the ongoing Israeli assault.
In a moving speech delivered on Monday during a ceremony in which he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester, Guardiola said :
“What we are witnessing in Gaza is profoundly painful. It hurts me in every part of my body.”
The Spanish coach continued:
“Let me be clear—this is not about ideology. It’s not about who is right or wrong. It’s simply about loving life and caring for your neighbor.”
He went on to say:
“We might think that the deaths of four-year-old children from hunger, or in hospitals that are no longer functioning, is not our concern. But beware—what is happening there may soon concern us all. The four- and five-year-olds who come next could be our own children.”
Guardiola concluded with a personal reflection:
“When I look at my children—Maria, Mario, and Valentina—every morning since this nightmare in Gaza began, I am filled with fear. These images may seem distant from where we are, but the reality is quite different.”
