Philippines hit by 6.1-magnitude earthquake

A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Philippines on Tuesday local time, according to data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the quake was some 42 kilometers east of the city of Santiago, which is home to a population of 148,580, according to the 2020 Census. The tremor struck at a depth of about 19.0 kilometers.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported the same earthquake at a magnitude of 6.2.
