Poultry Chamber President Reassures Tunisians on Production Abundance and Price Stability [Video]

The President of the National Chamber of Poultry and White Meat Traders, Ibrahim Nefzaoui, has reassured Tunisians that rumors of a poultry price hike this year are unfounded. Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, he clarified that the sector’s price increases occurred in 2024, whereas in 2025 a well-structured program has been put in place in coordination with all stakeholders to ensure abundant production and market stability.

According to Nefzaoui, the production of ready-to-cook white meat this year has reached between 14,000 and 14,200 tons, compared to 12,000 tons last year, with retail prices ranging between 8,000 and 8,800 millimes per kilogram. He added that approximately 6,250 tons of escalope have been produced, with maximum prices not exceeding 17.5 dinars per kilogram. Any price deviations, he stressed, can be promptly addressed in coordination with suppliers and relevant authorities to restore normal conditions.

On the egg market, Nefzaoui confirmed that production levels are more than sufficient. He pointed out that July recorded a production of 161 million eggs, compared to 162 million in August, ensuring uninterrupted market supply. Egg prices in markets have ranged from 1,200 to 1,600 millimes for four eggs, with expectations for further decreases in the coming period, potentially reaching 1,000 to 1,100 millimes for four. He emphasized that the Chamber, the joint professional group, and the Ministry of Trade intervene promptly in the event of any disruption to maintain stability.

In conclusion, Nefzaoui stated that all markets are currently operating normally, and prices are expected to remain stable — or even decrease — thanks to the abundance of supply.
