President Kais Saied Reviews Emergency Environmental Action Plan for Gabes

    President of the Republic Kais Saied chaired on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, a meeting of the task force appointed to propose urgent solutions to the critical environmental situation in the city of Gabes.

    On this occasion, the Head of State received the task force’s final report and reviewed its key recommendations.

    President Saied stressed his determination to take all necessary measures, particularly at the technical, financial and structural levels, to put an end to the sources of pollution in Gabes, pending the adoption of a comprehensive national environmental strategy. He underlined that he would not disappoint the Tunisian people and that all efforts would be made to meet their legitimate expectations to live in a safe and healthy environment, free from harmful emissions.

    Composition of the Task Force

    The task force is composed of the following experts:

    • Ali Ben Hamoud, Petrochemical Engineer and Head of the Task Force
    • Samia Ben Ali, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the National Engineering School of Gabes
    • Hamida Kouass, Associate Professor in Pulmonology and Allergology and Head of Department at the University Hospital of Gabes
    • Rafik Aouadi, Retired Director of Studies and Projects at the Chemical Group
    • Mohamed Salah Najjar, Retired CEO of the Chemical Group
    • Mohamed Ben Charada, Retired CEO of the Chemical Group
    • Noureddine Rachdi, Retired Director at the Chemical Group
