Pesidential candidate Ayachi Zammel was apprehended again shortly after his release from Borj El Amri prison, his attorney Abdel Sattar Messaoudi confirmed to Mosaïque FM radio.
Ayachi Zammel was initially arrested last Monday on suspicion of fraud in collecting popular sponsorships necessary for his candidacy. After this first arrest, an arrest warrant was issued against him. Nevertheless, last Thursday, the summer correctional chamber of the Manouba Court of First Instance accepted a request for provisional release made by his defence team and postponed the hearing to September 19.
This new arrest comes at a time when the case is being closely followed in the context of the presidential campaign. The accusations of falsifying sponsorships represent a significant issue for Zammel, one of the declared candidates for the presidential election, and further complicate his electoral campaign.
