On Monday, June 9, 2025, Hammadi Habib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture in charge of Water Resources, officially launched the cereal harvest and collection campaign in the governorate of Bizerte.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Habib stated to Tunisie Numérique that this year’s season looks particularly promising on a national scale.
National Production Estimated at 20 Million Quintals
According to data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Tunisia’s cereal harvest could reach approximately 20 million quintals this year. This figure represents a significant improvement compared to previous seasons, which were affected by harsh climatic conditions.
Bizerte Aims for 2.5 Million Quintals
The governorate of Bizerte is expected to achieve a particularly good yield this year. According to Hammadi Habib, the region could produce around 2.5 million quintals of cereals. This forecast is based on a cultivated area of about 100,000 hectares and an average yield of 25 quintals per hectare — a level described as “good and promising” by the Secretary of State.
Enhanced Security and Logistics Measures
Mr. Habib also noted that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the smooth running of the harvest season. A strong coordination effort was carried out between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Interior to guarantee optimal security and meet logistical needs throughout the harvest process.
