The Committee on Agriculture, Food and Water Security and Maritime Fisheries is holding, this Wednesday, 04 February 2026, a joint hearing session dedicated to the promotion of olive oil on both domestic and international markets.
The meeting is organized in cooperation with the Committee on Foreign Relations, International Cooperation, Tunisians Abroad and Migration, the Committee on Finance and Budget, as well as the Committee on Industry, Trade, Natural Resources, Energy and Environment.
The session is scheduled to begin at 09:30 a.m.
Broad participation of key institutions
The hearing brings together representatives from several ministries and key institutions involved in the olive oil value chain. These include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Maritime Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of Trade and Export Development.
Representatives of the Central Bank of Tunisia are also taking part in the session, highlighting the importance of financial and monetary dimensions in the development of olive oil exports.
Olive oil promotion at the heart of discussions
Discussions are expected to focus on strategies to enhance the value of Tunisian olive oil on both the domestic and international markets, amid strong global competition and the need to improve the competitiveness of the Tunisian product.
The debates are also likely to address export support mechanisms, challenges related to financing, marketing and logistics, as well as the role of economic diplomacy and trade agreements in opening up new export opportunities.
A major economic and agricultural challenge
As one of Tunisia’s leading agricultural export products, olive oil represents a key pillar of the national agricultural economy. This parliamentary hearing aims to identify concrete measures to strengthen the international presence of Tunisian olive oil, while stimulating domestic consumption and improving the income of farmers and producers.
