Citizens’ expectations concerning the impact of the recent heavy rain in several governorates on the water situation and large dams, along with their astonishment at the lack of improvement in reservoir levels, are completely understandable, water resources expert Hussein Rahili told Tunisie Numérique.
Rahili added according to data from the National Observatory of Agriculture, the dam filling rate had not surpassed 23.3 percent as of September 9. He clarified that this is clear evidence that most of the rainfall registered during the recent period happened in areas without dams.
Furthermore, he remarked that the situation of the dams in Tunisia remains critical, with filling rates still considered alarming. Al-Rahili emphasized the need for future rainfalls to reach the northwestern regions to improve the situation, particularly since dams are the primary source of drinking water for more than 13 governorates.
