From the end of tonight and throughout the day tomorrow, Monday, 23 December 2024, weather conditions are predicted to be favourable for temporarily stormy rainfalls in the northern regions and, locally, in central areas. These rains may be weighty in the coastal regions of the north, particularly in the far northwest, where precipitation amounts are forecast to range between 40 and 70 mm.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INM), hailstorms in some locations are possible, accompanied by strong winds reaching up to 80 km/h in gusts.
A significant temperature drop is anticipated, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, 24 and 25 December 2024. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 10 and 16°C, with values not surpassing 7°C at higher altitudes.
Minimum temperatures will vary from 4 to 9°C in eastern regions and from 0 to 4°C in western areas. Additionally, snowfall is possible in regions located at altitudes above 800 metres.
Rain, snow, and violent winds: Tunisia under winter weather conditions.
Tunisia is facing a marked decline in weather conditions at the start of this week, with heavy rains, snowfall, and powerful winds affecting several regions of the country.
Here are the detailed forecasts for this day marked by rigorous winter conditions.
Heavy Rainfall and Localized Risks Rainfall is expected to be particularly intense in the northern and central regions. Coastal areas in the north will sometimes experience stormy and locally heavy showers, especially in the northwest, where significant accumulations are expected.
There is also the possibility of hail in some areas.
Snow in the Mountains Elevations exceeding 800 meters, particularly in the western part of the country, will see the first snowfall of the season, mainly during the night. This situation could lead to traffic difficulties in these regions, where caution is urged.
Violent Winds and Rough Seas The wind, coming from the west, is blowing with exceptional intensity, especially near the coasts, where it will reach very strong levels. Inland, sustained gusts are also expected, with localized sandstorms in the southeast reducing visibility.
Maritime conditions are anticipated to be dangerous, with rough to extremely rough seas, particularly in the north.
Notable Drop in Temperatures A notable drop in temperatures is forecast in the northern and central regions. Maximum temperatures will range between 9°C and 14°C, while in mountainous areas, they will not exceed 6°C.
In the south, temperatures will be milder, with maximums between 14°C and 18°C.
Safety Advice In light of these challenging weather conditions, authorities recommend:
-
Avoid non-essential travel in areas impacted by heavy rain and snowfall.
-
Strengthening precautions near the coasts and on roads exposed to strong winds.
-
Limiting maritime activities until conditions improve.
This icy cold and these disturbances remind Tunisians that winter can sometimes be relentless, especially in the most exposed areas. Stay informed about weather developments and take necessary precautions for your safety.
