Several governorates in northwestern Tunisia recorded significant rainfall over the past weekend, contributing to an improvement in groundwater levels and having a positive impact on the region’s water resources.
Jendouba among the most affected regions
In this context, Lotfi Gammoudi, head of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries in Jendouba, stated in a declaration to the Tunisie Numérique correspondent that the governorate of Jendouba, like other northwestern regions, experienced substantial rainfall across several delegations.
Positive impact on dams and agricultural land
According to Lotfi Gammoudi, the recent rainfall has had several positive effects, most notably:
improved inflows to dams, leading to a rise in water levels;
significant benefits for agricultural land, which received large amounts of water, particularly following the end of the major crops season.
Improved germination and higher agricultural yields expected
The agricultural official stressed that this situation is expected to have a positive effect on germination rates and to improve agricultural productivity in the coming period.
He added that these favorable weather conditions strengthen farmers’ hopes for a better agricultural season, following a period marked by concerns over water stress.
