The Regional Director of Trade in Béja, Imed Sandid, said in a statement to Tunisie Numérique’s correspondent that economic inspection campaigns have been intensified with the arrival of the month of Ramadan. The move aims to ensure steady supply flows and address any violations that could undermine the transparency of commercial transactions.
Broad availability of most essential food products
According to the regional official, markets are currently seeing an ample supply of most basic food items. He noted that coordination has been carried out with the National Trade Office regarding strategic regulatory stockpiles, in order to secure the quantities needed to meet citizens’ needs throughout the month.
Sugar and key inputs secured for “mkharak” and “zlabia” artisans
Imed Sandid also announced that significant quantities of sugar have been secured for artisans who prepare “mkharak” and “zlabia,” two Ramadan specialties for which the region is known. He added that fine flour, semolina, oils, and sugar intended for artisanal use have also been made available.
Exceptional quantities of coffee and household sugar supplied through commercial channels
The same source confirmed the injection of exceptional quantities of coffee and household sugar across the various commercial distribution channels. He stressed that most essential products are currently available on the markets, pointing to daily monitoring of supply conditions and consumption trends during the fasting month.
Goal: market stability and protecting purchasing power
These measures, he said, are part of efforts by trade services to ensure market stability and protect citizens’ purchasing power, especially during a period marked by a noticeable rise in consumption.
