The Administrative Court confirmed today that Najji Jalloul’s candidacy for the 2024 presidential election has been denied. According to court spokesperson Faiçal Bouquerra, this decision came as the court started addressing appeals connected to the candidacy disputes for this critical election.
Najji Jalloul, a well-known political figure in Tunisia, will not be a candidate in the upcoming presidential election following the court’s verdict. This decision represents a notable development in the candidate selection process, highlighting the thoroughness of administrative controls in validating candidacies.
The court began its review of appeals concerning candidacies this Friday, and Jalloul’s appeal is among the first rulings to be made public. This follows the initial rejection of his candidacy by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE).
The rejection is a setback for Najji Jalloul, a former minister and influential political figure, who had aspired to run for president. The Administrative Court will continue to process other appeals from candidates whose applications were previously rejected.
