Israeli occupation authorities have released Palestinian prisoner Ahmad Manasra after he spent 10 years in Israeli prisons. He was apprehended when he was just 13 years old, and is now 23 years old upon his release.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, although it was expected that Ahmad would be released from Nafha Prison, where his family was waiting for him, they were shocked by a phone call from a Bedouin man in the Be’er Sheva area, notifying them that Ahmad was with him. The occupation authorities had deliberately released him in a remote location away from the prison gates, apparently in an attempt to avoid media attention and prevent a reception by his family.
Details of the Arrest and Sentence
Ahmad Manasra was arrested on October 12, 2015, in the town of Beit Hanina in occupied Jerusalem, accused of trying to carry out a stabbing operation along with his cousin, Hassan Manasra, who was shot and killed by Israeli forces on the same day.
At the time of his arrest, Ahmad was only 13 years and 9 months old, sparking widespread controversy over the legality of his detention, as Israeli law at the time prohibited imprisoning minors under the age of 14.
