Tunisian tennis player Aziz Dougaz, ranked 222nd in the world, failed to qualify for the second round of the Roland-Garros qualifying tournament, the second Grand Slam event of the season, after losing to Kazakhstan’s Dmitry Popko, world No. 164, in a tightly contested three-set match (7-6, 3-6, 7-6).
Dmitry Popko will face Colombia’s Daniel Galán, ranked 118th globally, in the second round of the qualifiers. Galán advanced earlier in the day with a straight-sets victory over Australian Omar Jasika (world No. 206), winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
