The Summer Criminal Chamber convicted Abdel Latif Mekki, Nizar Chaari and Mohamed Adel Daou to eight months in jail and a lifetime ban on running for office. They were implicated in a case of falsification of sponsorships for the presidential elections and distribution of gifts to influence voters.
In addition, the potential candidates on the run, Mourad Masoudi and Leila Hammami, were condemned to the same sentence with immediate execution.
Members of their campaigns were also sentenced, to three to eight months in prison and one to two years.
