Sfax eyes new trade opportunities with India (video)

India’s ambassador to Tunisia, Dr Devyani Uttam Khobragade, paid a second visit to the Sfax International Fair association to continue discussions on opportunities for economic and trade cooperation. According to the organisers, the meeting aimed to follow up on earlier talks and strengthen contacts with businesses.

Businesspeople and representatives of civil society, organisations and regional administrations attended the meeting, which sought to connect Sfax-based companies with partners in India and explore export opportunities in the Indian market.

    Building on earlier discussions

The visit followed an initial meeting that highlighted Sfax’s production and trade capabilities, its role in the national economy and its links with overseas markets.

According to the organisers, the second visit aimed to follow up on points agreed with the Sfax association of international fairs and conferences and continue discussions with several companies to develop opportunities for cooperation.

A new business centre to foster partnerships

The meeting formed part of the activities of the International Business Centre, a new body established by the association to support economic and trade exchanges and facilitate contacts between businesspeople and their overseas partners.

By hosting ambassadors and organising meetings with business stakeholders, the centre aims to support economic diplomacy, raise awareness of Tunisian products and explore opportunities to market them abroad.

It also seeks to facilitate partnerships in trade, economic affairs and development, opening up further opportunities for Tunisian companies.

Exploring access to the Indian market

According to the information provided, coordination is underway with the economic section of the Indian embassy to explore ways of connecting Sfax-based exporters with the Indian market.

The initiative is part of an effort to diversify export destinations and increase foreign exchange earnings. Discussions remain focused, at this stage, on exploring opportunities for cooperation and market access.
