The city of Sfax, through the Engineers’ House, commemorated the ninth anniversary of the assassination of resistance pilot and martyr Mohamed Zouari. Hosted on the esplanade of Bab Diwan, the event combined cultural and technological dimensions in an atmosphere of loyalty to a leading national and scientific figure.
The commemoration featured a rich and varied programme aimed at different audiences. A series of activities, along with scientific and interactive workshops, were organised for young people and enthusiasts in engineering and technology, reflecting Mohamed Zouari’s vision rooted in knowledge and innovation. The programme also included exhibitions and documentary images retracing his scientific and activist journey, while highlighting his contributions to aviation and cutting-edge technologies.
The gathering concluded with a virtual aeromodelling competition based on simulation. The initiative sought to introduce participants to modern piloting techniques, while fostering creativity and scientific thinking among younger attendees—consistent with Mohamed Zouari’s message at the intersection of science and service to just causes.
Organisers said the annual event forms part of a broader effort to preserve national memory and strengthen the values of commitment, science and resistance. They also stressed their aim of turning public spaces into living platforms for education and awareness, linking the past to the present and the future.
