Sfax–Thyna Airport conducts aviation security drill this Tuesday

The Office of Civil Aviation and Airports has announced the organization of a white operation at Sfax–Thyna International Airport, in the form of a full-scale exercise dedicated to civil aviation safety.

    An exercise scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

According to an official statement from the Office, the drill is taking place today, Tuesday, 16 December 2025, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. It is part of routine procedures aimed at strengthening security systems and emergency management at airport facilities.

    Testing emergency response readiness

The primary objective of this white operation is to assess the level of preparedness and coordination of the various services and stakeholders operating at Sfax–Thyna Airport in the event of an emergency. The exercise is designed to test intervention mechanisms, communication channels, and crisis management procedures in line with international civil aviation safety standards.

    Possible smoke near the runway

The Office of Civil Aviation and Airports has also warned that a cloud of smoke may be visible around the runway during the exercise period. It clarified that this is an integral part of the simulated scenario and does not pose any real danger to passengers, airport staff, or nearby residents.

The Office has therefore urged the public not to be alarmed by any unusual scenes observed around the airport during the indicated time frame.
