The governorate of Sidi Bouzid is set to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the outbreak of Tunisia’s Freedom and Dignity Revolution on 17 December 2010, through a diverse programme of cultural, artistic and community events targeting all age groups.
Organised under the theme “December 17… the voice of freedom”, the current edition of the International December 17 Festival will kick off on 16 December with activities at Mohamed Bouazizi Square, a landmark symbol of the Tunisian revolution.
Events on 17 December will include a flag-raising ceremony and the firing of 17 honorary shots, followed by a committed musical performance at Bouazizi Square by Les Amis du Cheikh Imam from Tajerouine. The programme also features the December 17 Basketball Tournament and a concert by Tunisian rapper Sanfara at the open-air theatre in Sidi Bouzid.
On 18 December, the celebrations will continue with an economic forum at the December 17 Youth Complex focusing on stalled development projects in the region. An international concert by Algerian artist Bilal Takchichine is also scheduled, alongside various cultural and educational activities in primary schools.
