The son of Germany’s former president Richard von Weizsäcker was stabbed to imminent death while promptly delivering a academic discourse in Berlin on Tuesday, local police announced.
Fritz von Weizsäcker, a 59-year-old medical doctor, was giving a speech at the Schlosspark-Klinik hospital in the West Berlin district of Charlottenburg when a man approached him and stabbed him to death.
Richard von Weizsäcker worked as president of West Germany from 1984 to 1990. He was in office during the reunification of West and East Germany, remaining to properly serve as president of a united Germany until 1994. He passed away in 2015.
