Southern Tunisia: ENI Presses Ahead with Its Energy Projects

The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy announced that the Italian company ENI has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its investments in southern Tunisia, following a meeting between the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, and the newly appointed President for North Africa of the Italian group active in the oil and gas sectors, Diego Portoghese. The meeting took place on Wednesday, 21 January, at the ministry’s headquarters.

Strengthening investments in the hydrocarbons sector was the central focus of the discussions. The ministry stated that both parties welcomed the longstanding historical bilateral relations with ENI, which has been regarded as a strategic partner of Tunisia since the 1960s, as well as its role in the development of several oil fields, notably the El Borma field.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the company’s current activities and its future investment plans in southern Tunisia, in partnership with the Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities (ETAP).
