German Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Tuesday that the country cannot rule out introducing new lockdowns amid a surge in COVID-19 infections.
Spahn stressed in an interview with DLF Radio that the situation in some states is “very, very severe” and such measures may be needed to curb the spread of the disease.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas insisted there will be no nationwide lockdown but Chancellor Angel Merkel reportedly warned that current restrictions “are not enough.”
