STEG-SONEDE debt rescheduling begins today

The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (Sonede) and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (Steg) reported on February 19 a debt rescheduling program for customers in difficulty. This new measure comes into force today, February 24, 2025.

For Steg, this measure involves three categories of customers:

The first category of customers concerned will receive an invoice today with the amount of the rescheduling in addition to the monthly consumption. Customers whose monthly electricity consumption does not surpass 4 kWh will benefit from an automatic rescheduling. This concerns approximately 2 million Steg customers.

The second category concerns small businesses that have suspended their activity due to their debts to Steg. These businesses will have to present a prior request and Steg is required to act positively on the requests.

The third category concerns water groups. They will also have to file a prior request and Steg is required to act positively on the requests.

For Sonede, this new measure concerns 1.5 million customers for a total amount estimated at 300 million dinars. As a reminder, Sonede had specified that customers whose consumption does not exceed 40m³ and water management associations will have access to an automatic rescheduling of their debt over seven years, in the form of monthly payments calculated according to the total value.
