Syria: 13 dead and 53 injured in suicide attack at Damascus church

Witnesses said an explosion rocked St. Elijah Church in the Rif region of Damascus on Sunday, killing 13 people.
A witness told Reuters that a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the church. A security spokesman in Damascus did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reports indicated that a suicide bomber targeted St. Elijah Church in the Duweila neighborhood, east of Damascus.
In the same context, Syrian media reported an explosion in the Duweila neighborhood of Damascus, and ambulances rushed to the scene. Civil defense teams were working to evacuate victims and treat the wounded, and public security forces established a security cordon in the area in anticipation of further explosions.
Later Sunday evening, the Syrian Ministry of Health announced the initial death toll of 13 civilians killed and 53 injured in the terrorist attack that targeted St. Elijah Church in the Duweila neighborhood of Damascus.
