Syrian Foreign Minister Assaad al-Shibani (pictured) announced his first official contact with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday since Islamist-led rebels seized power in Damascus.
Al-Shibani, who leads Syria’s foreign affairs under the Transitional Government established in December, described the call as constructive. He highlighted Egypt’s recognition of the importance of collaboration between the two nations in promoting regional stability and prosperity.
“I was pleased with the call from His Excellency the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdel Aati, who stressed the importance of the role of the two countries in achieving stability and prosperity for the region, and that #Egypt and #Syria share a common history and a promising future,” the Syrian minister said on X.
