Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir revealed that Syria will soon sign an agreement to import electricity from Turkey via a 400-kilovolt line extending from Turkey to Syria, in addition to working on a natural gas line between the Turkish city of Kilis and the Syrian city of Aleppo, according to the official Syrian news agency “SANA.”
Minister al-Bashir explained that an electricity line connecting Reyhanlı in Turkey to the Harim area in the countryside of Idlib will begin operation soon. Once finished, this line will supply about 80 megawatts of electricity to northern Syria through a transformer station on the Turkish side.
He also stated that the gas line will allow Syria to import 6 million cubic meters of gas per day for power generation plants, contributing to improving the energy situation in the country.
