Desert locust control teams in the governorate of Tataouine are continuing their round-the-clock efforts to curb the invasion and spread of locusts in the region. From March 12 until yesterday, Tuesday, they sprayed pesticides over a total area of 3,280 hectares in the delegations of Dhehiba, Remada, Smar, Beni M’hira, and Northern Tataouine, according to Mongi Cheniter, Regional Delegate for Agricultural Development, speaking to a journalist from TAP news agency.
The monitoring and treatment teams focused on the nymph stage of the desert locust, locally known as “Debbione,” as it is considered more dangerous. Nearly 1,500 hectares were treated in the eastern part of the governorate, where these nymphs were detected, to prevent them from reaching other areas, according to the same source.
So far, no damages or losses have been reported in crops or trees in the region, the regional delegate confirmed.
