For the fifth successive night, four specialized teams continued their mission to eradicate desert locust swarms in the areas of Mratba, Ouni, and El Makmen in the Dhehiba district. These swarms entered Tunisian territory from the eastern border, according to Masoud bin Amer Rukouni, head of the regional council.
Officials from the General Directorate of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs Control, alongside local authorities, closely monitored the operations to ensure effectiveness. The situation remains under control, with locust swarms confined to limited areas, including El Makmen, where the infestation was successfully eradicated.
As a preventive measure, authorities intend to survey mountainous and hard-to-reach areas using aircraft and drones starting Tuesday to detect any remaining locust activity.
During the day, four surveillance teams track locust movements, while at night, four additional teams equipped with pesticides and specialized equipment carry out eradication efforts to combat the infestation effectively.
