The decision followed a meeting held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, attended by committee chair Faouzi Daâs, members of its bureau and several MPs to set its work programme for the coming period.
Which bills should take priority?
Discussions focused on progress in reviewing the bills before the committee and on how to organise its work.
Several MPs called for the committee to complete its examination of bills that had reached an advanced stage of review and voting. They specifically cited proposals concerning tax advisers, notaries and amendments to drug legislation.
Other members argued that priority should go to bills with a direct impact on social conditions and security.
Participants also stressed the need for a clear legislative agenda that aligns the committee’s priorities with society’s needs and reforms of strategic importance, to make the proposed legislation more effective.
Calls for closer coordination with the executive
The relationship between the legislative and executive branches was also discussed. Committee members argued that better communication could speed up legislative work and help conclude the review of several bills.
They called for more effective coordination mechanisms to strengthen cooperation between the two branches and advance the legislative process.
Monitoring implementation and assessing impact
Several MPs also called for monitoring the implementation of laws previously examined by the committee. They advocated assessing their impact with input from the various stakeholders and organisations concerned.
At the start of the meeting, the committee discussed decree-laws brought to its attention and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Tunisia on September 30, 2026. Its chair then presented the bills referred to the committee to help set its agenda for the coming period.
