“This way, the budget cannot be applied”: the Finance Minister issues a stark warning! (video)

Finance Minister Michket Slama Khaldi stated that several proposals submitted by Members of Parliament were in breach of Article 49 of the Organic Budget Law. She stressed that this article clearly requires that any proposal must be accompanied by an additional source of funding, a condition that has not been respected.

A threat to the balance of public finances

The minister explained that the lack of alternative resources to compensate for the amendments introduced poses a direct threat to the overall balance of public finances as well as the financial equilibrium of special funds.

“Article 49 has been violated, even though it explicitly requires that any amendment be backed by an additional revenue source. This affects the general balance of public finances and that of the funds,” she declared.

Without respect for the law, the Finance Act cannot be applied

Michket Slama Khaldi warned that if the situation continues, the Finance Act will simply not be applicable.

She nonetheless reiterated her willingness to engage and listen:

“I am honoured by the responsibility entrusted to me, and I intend to fulfil it. I am open to all proposals, but violating the law is not an option,” she insisted.

The minister called on MPs to respect the legal framework to ensure the proper and viable adoption of the national budget.
